id2 girls fall to Olympique Lyonnais, prepare to compete in final game on tomorrow

MADRID, Spain (April 9, 2025) – In the second game of the 2025 id2 National Selection International Tour, the id2 girls team fell to Olympique Lyonnais’s academy team, 4-1. It was the second of three opponents the ’11 squad will face in France and the first of two in Lyon.

The match was a battle from the start, with both squads allowing only a few chances to find the back of the net early in the first half. The Olympique Lyonnais squad would open the scoring, though, finding the back of the net in the 30th minute. The home team would score two more times before halftime in the 38th and 40th minute.

The id2 girls would change formations heading into the second half, moving into a double nine. This would provide the squad with more offensive attacking opportunities throughout the half. In the 80th minute, Jalisse Padilla (Bay Area Surf) put the id2 girls on the board with a valiant solo effort to goal. However, Olympique Lyonnais would close out the scoring in the 86th minute. The id2 team tallied five shots on goal and eleven saves in net from goalkeepers Isabella Nguyen (Bay Area Surf) and Shiloh Deusner (Hoover Vestavia Soccer).

The 2025 id2 National Selection girls team faces three worthy challengers in France, splitting its time between Paris and Lyon:

  • April 7 vs. Paris FC
  • April 9 vs. Olympique Lyonnais
  • April 10 vs. FBBP

The matches take the teams to several sites in France, which speaks to the value of cultural immersion on this trip. These clubs offer unique training styles and developmental experiences that the id2 National Selection teams will see first-hand. Cultural immersion isn’t limited to matches and training sessions, though; the American delegation will also attend professional men’s and women’s games and tour professional training grounds in Paris and Lyon.

The 2025 id2 National Selection International Tour (girls) officially began April 2 with a two-day domestic camp in Chicago before traveling to Paris for the first half of the France stay and then Lyon for the remainder. The tour, which concludes April 12, represents the final progression of the current id2 age group cycle targeting players born in 2011.

The id2 Program is a leader in player identification and development, as it provides opportunities for elite athletes to be identified, developed and scouted for inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s youth national team programming.
