Recommendation and Identification: A national scouting and recommendation process for targeted birth years is used to form the id2 Program player pool. US Club Soccer solicits player recommendations from club leaders throughout the country, which supplement the organization’s own scouting process that utilizes a network of scouts throughout the country.
Mirroring U.S. Soccer’s talent identification regions, US Club Soccer is formalizing six regions of the country and establishing lead and supplemental scouts in each region. The alignment with U.S. Soccer scouting is significant, as id2 becomes a “reserve” program for U.S. Soccer Youth National Teams. This robust and diverse scouting network is intended to identify players in all areas of the country, no matter whether they are in traditional or non-traditional pathways.
Evaluation and Invitation: Players will be invited to the id2 National Training Camp based on local and regional scouting at events like Player Development Programs (PDP); events within the NPL, ECNL Regional League and ECNL; targeted showcases; and more.
id2 National Training Camp: The id2 National Training Camp will feature an exciting new format with players placed in teams to compete amongst and against each other. Participants will work with some of the nation’s best coaches, play with and against some of the nation’s best players in their age group, and are scouted by on-site US Club Soccer, U.S. Soccer staff and professional academies. In addition to the games and on-field sessions, the camps feature guest speakers, lectures/classroom sessions and other offerings, which make for a multi-faceted learning experience.
id2 National Selection Camp: For the 2025-26 season, which targets 2012-born players the id2 National Selection Camp is a training-focused camp with games that will be held domestically in May 2026. Specific programming is subject to change as needs of the players evolve, including the potential reallocation of the id2 National Selection International Tour to older age groups. Regardless of specific programming, expansion to older age groups allows for longer evaluation periods, better integration with participating players’ clubs and coaches, and recognizes the non-linear nature of player development and the need to identify players later in their growth.
